Trekking guides Refresher Training Course

Following annual practice, Mountain Legend held its Third Annual Trekking Guides Refresher Training Course from 5 to 18 January, 2012 in the premises of the Company in Kathmandu.  A total of 30 full-time working guides currently working with us participated.The Course curriculum included:   trek, trail and camp management; trek and trail knowledge of all the various areas that we operate in; know-how and use of the contents of the medical kit carried along; action to be taken for medical emergencies while on trek including on-the-spot care and treatment and then quick evacuation procedures (both ground and air) of trekkers in serious condition such as acute mountain sickness; improvement of communication skills in the English language; trek crew-clients inter-action skills; improvement of knowledge of flora and fauna; sharpening of knowledge of cultures to be encountered on the trail; national history and knowledge of the basis but important aspects of the Hindu and Buddhist religions.

Our old friends from the Tongue Twister language institute Mr.Pradhan and his daughter Anju were with us once again for the language classes (ably assisted by Ms. Gill Marshall of the UK), while Dr. Thapa, experienced in mountain traveling, did the medical honours, the Ven. Norbu Lama and Mr. Tanka Prasad handled the religious aspects and veteran guides with over 22 years’ experience handled the other practical aspects of the training.On conclusion of the Course, which was deemed to be a success once again, all the trainees were awarded Merit Certificates of Participation.  Mountain Legend will continue these Courses in the years to come.We were generously assisted in the running of this Course by Mountain Kingdoms of the UK to whom we express our sincere thanks.
