Everest High Passes Trek

Fly to Lukla airport, acclimatization in Namche Bazaar (3440 m), trek east  through Thame (3800 m), head north, cross the Bhote Kosi River gorge to Lungdhen (4380 m) –more acclimatization.  A hard trek north-east up past three ice-lakes, over the Renjo-la (5,340 m), to Gokyo (4790 m) on the east side of Dudh Pokhari (lake).  Hike up to Gokyo-ri (5,357 m) for great views of Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, Pumori, Ama Dablam and Changtse (Tibet).  Drop down to the base of the Ngozumba Glacier,  east to Dragnak (4,700 m), cross the Tsho-la (5,368m), down to Dzong-la (4,830 m), up to Lobuche (4,910 m) and push on to Kala Pathar (5550 m) for an amazing overview of the EBC (5,360m) and Everest herself.  We go back to Lobuche for a day’s rest before crossing the Khongma-la (5,535 m), then head south along the bank of the Imja River past Dingboche, Pangboche, Thyangboche, Phungi Thanga to Namche Bazaar, before getting back to Lukla airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. 

All along, great views of Cholatse (6,440 m), Pokalde (5,794 m), Nuptse (7,864 m), Makalu (8,475 m) and Ama Dablam (6,814 m) accompany you.  Visit sacred Buddhist monasteries of the high Nepali Himalayas, including Thyangboche.  (If the trek dates are at the appropriate times, one can witness the colourful and unforgettable Buddhist festivals, including mask dances performed by monks.)
