Just 30 kms north of Kathmandu are the Langtang and Jugal ranges which makes the Langtang Valley a neatly accessible area for a trek on which you enjoy the snowy peaks surrounding it, the raw beauty of sacred Gosainkund Lake and the ageless and rich culture of the Helambu valley. The hike up the valley is through rhododendron forests inhabited by langur monkeys and the rare red panda and highlighted by a visit to Kyangjin monastery and a challenging hike up to Chergo-ri (4,984 m). The trek further on to Gosainkund over the Laurebina Pass (4610 m) is through pretty rugged terrain descending down into the low and wide Helambu Valley rich with Sherpa culture and superb contrasting views of the greater Himalayan range in the north and the thickly forested hills in the south. Famous mountaineer Bill Tilman had remarked that Langtang was “one of the world’s most beautiful valleys.”
