The Annapurna Sanctuary

Surrounded by some of the highest summits in the world, this area, the entrance to which is guarded by Mounts Machhapuchhare – or “Fishtail” – (6997 m)  and Hiunchuli (6434 m), is called a ‘sanctuary’ because of it’s serene charm and also because it is believed to be blessed by two of Nepal’s most revered goddesses,  Annapurna and Gangapurna.  The flora and fauna of this area is amazingly varied and the views  of Annapurna South (7219 m) and the entire range itself is breathtaking.  The treks in the middle of your itinerary to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3,658 m) and Annapurna Base Camp – Sir Chris Bonington first established this camp– at (4,139 m) are highlights of your trip.  Most of the locals are “Gurungs” who provide fighting men for the British and Indian Army Gurkha regiments.
